Mother's Day

As we approach Mother's Day I think of all the birthmothers and especially the birthmothers of our two sons. My heart goes out for these women whom I personally greatly admire for reasons I will express below.
The act of giving is in the very core of a mother's mission, since they (or should I say "we"?) are constantly giving our time, money and affection toward our kids. However when it comes to give away the rights as a mother of a child, that is greatly misunderstood; people see it usually as someone who "gave away a child," and that cannot be good, right? I disagree.

The creator of "adoption" is God, who gave away his only Son, so we could be adopted - and we know He did it out of love for us.

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son..."

And also...

Galatians 4:4-7

"But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

In the type of adoption we experienced, through a private agency - and private adoptions are the same - there are the receptors, the adoptive parents and the givers, the birthparents. The first ones rejoice with the wonderful gift they received. But someone had to "give something up" in the process, and these are the birthparents. In my knowledge of these adoption cases, all I have seen so far are birthparents struggling with a hard decision, but coming to a conclusion of putting their children up for adoption out of love, from the knowledge that some other parents may provide them with better life conditions than they can at the moment.

Even more costly than the daily giving of a mother to their children, is the cost of giving a child away - out of love. And that is what God did for us, so we could be blessed and receive the redemption of our sins.

We are so grateful to our sons' birthmothers who had the courage to make a hard decision, so we could be blessed with the experience of parenthood. We love our two boys with all of our hearts and praise God for the way He orchestrated everything and used these selfless women to give us the most precious gifts we ever received: Andrew and Isaac.

Happy Mother's Day!
